Sepia Toning Step-by-Step {Photoshop CS4}

Sepia toning used to involve chemicals, timing and lots of ventilation. Now as long as your working digital it can take a couple of clicks and sha-bam you have a sepia toned photograph. The trick is creating one that looks great and realistic next to a real sepia toned photograph.

First, open your colored image in Photoshop![]()
Second, click Window and open up you Adjustments, this is where all the magic is going to happen.

Third, click and create a new Black & White adjustment layer, this will allow you to go back later and change your original adjustments.

Fourth, return to your Adjustments by click the back arrow.

Fifth, click and create a new Photo Filter adjustment layer, this will allow you to quickly apply a sepia tone to your photograph.

Sixth, click on the drop-down menu and select Sepia, then adjust the density from 25% to 40%, this will perk up the sepia tone on the photograph.

Seventh, choose Window in the top menu and select Layers, this is where you can go in and readjust all the changes you have made in the adjustment layers. Simply double click on the circled symbol to make further adjustments in the adjustment layers.

Now go play and enjoy digitally sepia toning your photographs.
